Belt-less 3D Printer ?

    Hi.

    I've not read every post on the site but I've yet to find a 3D printer design that does not use drive belts.
    Is there a reason for this?
    Anyway, I've designed a printer that only uses acme threaded rods for all of the movement.
    What are the flaws with my design?

    Your feedback would be much appreciated.

    @JustinTime - many thanks for the reply. I did some research today and found that using the openbuilds 8mm rods my esteps would be 400 rather than the 200 needed for a GT2, so it's half the speed. Although slower, is this a usable rate? Looking at the maze of belts needed to active the same motion it seems overly complicated, even if it's faster.

    with your setup you are using two steppers for Y and 1 for X. best to keep each axis limited to a single stepper to eliminate sync issues

    I did originally design a version with only one motor driving the y-axis but I was worried that when it was at the end of the axis it might exert unequal force on the x-axis. Using two driven in parallel? will hopefully avoid sync issues.

    Use a belt to drive the second screw. Pulley on one side with a belt running from the top (or bottom) running to the second screw. No sync issues then. I know you're wanting to avoid belts but that is a fairly simple setup.
