When I bought my Spectrum 5th generation the advertised it as a removable bottom. It was but very troublesome removing a dozen screws. I wanted to have better height adjustment for say a wooden box. What I have done is build a wooden box with bottom from laser with 4" sides. I made an adjustable rack with 4 independent all-thread leveling rods. the box enclose has doors in front and back so larger items may be inserted. elevating length restrictions! the only thing that would be better is motorized Z height adjustment.
      Hope this may help!
