myOX Y gantry plate bent plexiglass dust shield v1b000

This is a plexiglass shield to house the controller board and protect it and stepper from dust/chips

  1. Ooops ! Adjusted a few pockets and such

    Serge E.
Did a bit of redesign, pockets are not as deep to minimise deformation especially at the fan grill. Corrected some pockets which were deeper.

Also moved the pockets to hold the controller board support as it was too high (hit the stepper !) and stretch that support downward for a bit more room in case you use a different controller.

You can always tweak to your needs.

Note: although these SketchUp files include both shields (left and right) as well as the controller support piece, you...
  2. Should be it for right ('near') shield ...

    Serge E.
This should do it for the right ('near') shield. This is the one with the controller mount, control butons, fan and emergency switch.

I do have to try and insert tabs in the cutout of the outer edge.

The left ('far') shield will basically be a copy of this one, with less details AND the four mounting holes shifted to the opposite long edge. Once I finalise the right shield, it will be easy to make the other at very end... A couple flat cuts of plexiglass are needed to mount the...
  3. SketchUcam magic, with a bit of tweaking to get there

    Serge E.
There it is, almost complete as it is just missing the outer cutout to separate shield from rest of raw material.
  4. Now partly SketchUcam'ed

    Serge E.
So I'm 'playing' with the SketchUcam features .... and trying to get around a few quirky aspects (I find). I have not generated the G-code, so end result is not guaranteed.

Instead of using 'folds' to mill the folds (!), which requires some work with the 2D layout, I have used 'pockets' and then deleted some of the generated tool paths. Same type of tweak with the other areas which are only at 25% depth (the nut areas of the control switches, the grooves which help hold a piece of...
  5. 2D for SketchUcam / 3D for MeshCam or similar

    Serge E.
Finally got around to working on the SketchUp file update.

You should fine both SU8 and SU2015 versions, each with a 2D and and 3D version of the shield. I have not used SketchUcam on the 2D nor MeshCAM on the 3D, as of yet.

Man the garage is cold these days ! :cold:
