So I'm developing an automated rig that will rotate a pressure probe in a wind tunnel in the yaw and pitch directions, but the design I have come up with is to expensive. So I need fresh ideas that maybe someone can help me with, possibly using the parts I can get from OpenBuilds.
It's a bit different to the usual projects, but I'm sure someone here can help me!

P.S. I'm very new to this community!

The PDF attached is the design I have so far, using rotary tables and stepper motors.
I can give more information to anyone who can help.

    Thanks!

    Matt

    Hi Matt, Welcome to OpenBuilds!
Very cool looking idea you have there. I think one way to save a little may be to use less extrusion on the legs. Maybe you could build just the top portion and set it on a table or a stand of some sort. Just a quick off the top of my head way to save a little. Hope it helps :)
BTW what motors are you thinking of using? It looks like your looking at pancake style steppers?
Keep up the good work, looks like an interesting project.

Have you looked into using servos instead of stepper motors? Servos have feedback and you can get ones with metal gears that are very strong (depending on how much wind force is pushing on them). Usually servos have a range of motion of 180 degrees but there are continuous rotation servos also.

@kram242 thanks for the idea! Will definitely save some money. The main issue I have is that I chose to use rotary tables that use a worm gear with a stepper, which is what is shown in the drawing. These are very expensive, but I chose them for the holding torque and precision.
@Sami Suteria I have a stepper motor controller which is why I would like to use steppers, otherwise I'll have to change my control!
