THC stands for Torch Height Control. It's a method to optimise the height of the plasma arc above the work piece. In the extreme, it can be used to (for example) cut a piece of corrugated iron....

Ok that makes sense , now I just need to figure out how to wire the torch ( powermax 30 ) to the cnc.

    OK, Plasma enthusiasts!
What size machine do you have and what is your best result in (1) Aluminium, (2) Mild Steel, and, (3) Stainless Steel. Please provide images of cut and dross :) AND plasma machine info and cutting settings. This should be interesting!

My best result is in Mild Steel 3 mm , speed 2500mm/mn , arc voltage 125V , torch height 1.2mm
    [IMG] [IMG]

also good in mild steel 5mm at 1400mm/mn

    Hello
For which part do you need the wiring diagram ?
For all the movements, it is identical to the OX CNC , for the wiring of theTHC , you can find the wiring on this thread some post before .

A few days ago on another thread someone mentioned that he had problem with the delrin wheels. They got a flat spot when he left his machine idle overnight. I think his gantry was a bit heavy, which makes it more prone to getting a flat spot.

What program do you use to do the cutting with? All I can find in open source is laser programs nothing with a lead in or lead out.

I do not use an opensource program with this machine .
I use sheetcam to generate my gcode file , and you can use grbl software to control it like a cnc ( with a torch instead router )

@mytechno3d I'm thinking about doing a build very similar to this minus the water table for now.

    I have 3 questions

    1. Do you feel the 20x80 rails are necessary without a water table or could 20x40 rails be used instead

    2. What size belt and pull are you using

    3. What size motors

    Hello
Sorry to answer you only now , to much work to do and not enough time ...
1 / because au the size of the machine i prefer using 20x80 instead 20x40 rails , plasma cutting go really fast , and you must have the maximum rigidity .
    2 / I'm using GT3 belt and GT3 pulley ( same as ox CNC )
    3 / I use nema 23 for x and y axis and nema 17 for 7 axis

It's been 2 years now that I use this machine , no problem at all :) .
My only advice is not to invest in THC for this size on cutting table ( on only use 3 or 4 times in 2 years )

I would also love to see the completed BOM. This machine looks great. What is the fastest feed rate you feel comfortable with on the machine (not worrying about plate thickness)? Thanks!!
